Founded in 2013, W. Catanesye & Co. is a full-service pipe organ building, restoration and consultation firm.
The company has provided services to owners and builders of pipe organs across the United States. Our experience in actions range from electro-pneumatic to tracker and most recently we have added Continuo organ service to our portfolio, tuning for: Boston Early Music Festival, Handel & Haydn Society, Boston Baroque and Emmanuel Music among others.
During employment at Spencer Organ Company, Inc. of Waltham, Massachusetts for nearly 9 years, involvement with two landmark organs are of particular note. The 4 manual, 146 rank 1930 Æolian Co. organ at Longwood Gardens, Kennett Square, PA, restored by Nelson Barden & Associates in conjunction with Spencer Organ Co., Inc., and the 4 manual, 96 rank 1938 W. W. Kimball Co. organ at St. John's Cathedral, Denver, CO. William worked in all areas at the Spencer shop, from pipework restoration and mechanical restoration to tuning and maintenance.
In addition to working at Spencer, William has perfected his skills over the past 19 years working for other firms: Henri Lahaise & Son of W. Roxbury, MA, Andover Organ Company, Roche Organ Company of Taunton, MA, and the Delisle Organ Company. William is an active member of the American Institute of Organbuilders, receiving the Colleague certification (CAIO) in 2011. He has served on the AIO nominating committee from 2013-2014 and currently serves on the Board of Directors as well as the 2016 Boston AIO Convention local committee.
William attended the University of Massachusetts at Lowell and Boston as a music major and has worked as a professional church organist for the past 26 years. Combined with 19 years experience in organ building, he provides a unique perspective to understand the challenges and provide solutions for church organs.
